The 2026 Eagle Farm winter carnival runs across four Saturdays from late May to late June, and Hampton Court Apartments sits about eight minutes away in Clayfield, one train line from the course. This guide covers the raceday dates, getting there without the parking stress, the highlights, where to eat, and when to book your stay.

Winter is racing season in Brisbane, and Eagle Farm is the heart of it. The advantage of basing yourself in Clayfield is simple: you are close enough to walk out of the apartment and be trackside without fighting cross-town traffic. Here is how to do the carnival properly.

When are the 2026 Eagle Farm racedays and how do tickets work?

The carnival’s Eagle Farm legs land on four Saturdays: Kingsford Smith Cup Day on 30 May, Queensland Oaks Day on 6 June, Ladbrokes Stradbroke Handicap Day on 13 June, and Tattersall’s Tiara Day on 27 June. The two Doomben legs, the Doomben 10,000 and the Doomben Cup, fall on 16 and 23 May. Tickets are sold through the Brisbane Racing Club, so check brc.com.au for general admission, dining packages and on-sale dates, and buy Stradbroke Day early because it is the one that sells out.

How do we get to Eagle Farm from Hampton Court Apartments?

Distance: about 2.5km, roughly an eight-minute drive, or one line on the train. Directions: the course is at 230 Lancaster Road, Ascot.

This is where staying in Clayfield pays off. Ascot railway station sits right beside the course on the same Doomben line that runs through Clayfield, so on a raceday you can board near the apartment and step off a two-minute walk from Gate 4 at the corner of Racecourse Road and Lancaster Road. It is the smart move, because the streets around the track are timed-parking zones on racedays. If you would rather drive, there is free parking in the Infield Car Park via Nudgee Road through the tunnel, but it fills fast on the big Saturdays. Either way, you leave the car at our free parking and travel light.

What are the highlights of the carnival?

Distance: all at Eagle Farm, 230 Lancaster Road, Ascot. Best for: a full day out, gates usually open late morning.

Each Saturday has its own headline. Kingsford Smith Cup Day on 30 May pairs the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup with the Queensland Derby, a strong opener. Queensland Oaks Day on 6 June features the Group 1 Oaks for staying fillies. The big one is Ladbrokes Stradbroke Handicap Day on 13 June: the Stradbroke Handicap is Queensland’s richest race and runs late in the card, around Race 8 in the afternoon, alongside the J.J. Atkins for the season’s best young horses. Tattersall’s Tiara Day on 27 June closes the carnival with a Group 1 for mares. Fashion, form and a long afternoon in the sun are the constants across all four.

Where do we eat around race day?

Distance: Racecourse Road about a five-minute walk from Gate 4. Directions: back toward Ascot from the course.

You do not have to rely on course catering. Racecourse Road runs almost from the track gates, so a pre-race breakfast or a post-race debrief is an easy stroll. Verandah on Racecourse is good for an early sit-down before the first, Taro’s Ramen sorts a fast lunch, and 5 Boroughs is the spot for burgers and a cold one once the last has run. On Stradbroke Day especially the strip is buzzing, so book ahead if you want a table after the races, or wander down and take your chances at the bar.

When should we book to stay for it?

Distance: on site at 436 Sandgate Road, Clayfield. Best for: booking four to six weeks ahead of Stradbroke Day.

Carnival Saturdays are the busiest nights of the Brisbane winter for accommodation on this side of town, and Stradbroke weekend is the peak. If you are coming for the racing, book four to six weeks out to lock in a two-bedroom apartment, especially if you are travelling as a group and want to split the cost. A self-contained apartment also means a proper breakfast in your own kitchen before a long day trackside, room for the whole group, and a comfortable lounge to put your feet up in afterward. Book direct for the best rate and you are set for the carnival.

FAQs

When is the 2026 Eagle Farm winter carnival?

The Eagle Farm legs run across four Saturdays: Kingsford Smith Cup Day on 30 May, Queensland Oaks Day on 6 June, Ladbrokes Stradbroke Handicap Day on 13 June, and Tattersall’s Tiara Day on 27 June. The Doomben legs fall on 16 and 23 May. Always confirm tickets on brc.com.au.

How do we get to Eagle Farm from Hampton Court Apartments?

The easiest way on a raceday is the train. Ascot station sits beside the course on the same Doomben line that runs through Clayfield, so you hop on near the apartment and walk to Gate 4. Driving is about eight minutes, but street parking around the course is timed on racedays.

Is there parking at Eagle Farm on race days?

Yes. There is free parking in the Infield Car Park, entered via Nudgee Road through the tunnel near the Racecourse Village Shopping Centre. It fills on the big days, so arrive early or take the train from near Hampton Court Apartments and skip the queues entirely.

Which raceday should first-timers pick?

Stradbroke Handicap Day on 13 June is the biggest and busiest, with the state’s richest race late in the card. For a first carnival day with a bit more room, Kingsford Smith Cup Day on 30 May or Oaks Day on 6 June are excellent and a little easier to move around.

The winter carnival is one of the best reasons to stay on Brisbane’s northside, and from Clayfield you are close enough to make a full raceday feel effortless.
